Their story
Gustav I, born Gustav Eriksson at Lindholmen in 1496, founded the royal House of Vasa. Following the volatile Kalmar Union period, he emerged as a pivotal figure in Swedish history. Initially serving as regent, he was elected king, becoming the first hereditary monarch of Sweden. His reign saw the establishment of the Swedish state church and significant administrative reforms that laid the groundwork for a more centralized government. Gustav I's actions irrevocably altered Sweden's political and religious landscape, shaping the nation's trajectory for centuries. He died at Tre Kronor Castle in 1560.
